Business in the Community is a unique movement of companies across the UK committed to improving continually their positive impact on society. Business in the Community's 700 members include 70% of the FTSE 100
70% of member companies identify education as an essential focus for their community investment. Business in the Community's education campaign works to maximise the effectiveness of business commitment to this key social issue - and to inspire the other 30% to get involved.
We work with member companies to develop their education programmes in the following areas:
- Developing pupils' skills in literacy and numeracy
- Helping young people prepare for employability
- Supporting Head Teachers and teachers in developing their management and leadership skills.
We provide a first-stop-shop service for member companies to help them work in partnership with effective delivery agencies at a local level. This includes a website
www.bitc.org.uk
We work to influence Government policy and to ensure that education business links remain high on the DfEE's agenda for improving standards in schools.
A leadership team of senior representatives from business and education, chaired by Richard Handover, Group Chief Executive of WHSmith, creates and monitors the education strategy for the movement.
