CITB is a statutory body established to improve the quality and efficiency of training in the construction industry and its mission to ‘promote and facilitate the training of sufficient people in the skills needed for a world class construction industry’ reflects this. It supports training in many ways, including the payment of grants and other financial support to firms who carry out training to CITB approved standards and also has responsibility for ensuring that employers and individuals have access to accurate information about future learning and skill needs in their sectors.

Through its Recruitment, Education and Careers business area, CITB seeks to deliver a coherent careers/education strategy to support recruitment and to promote a positive image of the construction industry. Our work at strategic level with Education Business Link Organisations and Learning and Skills Councils is particularly important as we need to support their work in providing opportunities for curriculum enhancement as well as facilitating work related learning opportunities for students aged 14 or over.
